With the massive success of the franchise, Netflix in July 2019 declared that the series has been canceled. Hence, as of today, there is no season four coming out.

This has disappointed fans around the world. However, the streaming platform will continue flowing the first three seasons for years to come.

Designated Survivor Season 4: Why it got canceled?

Recently Netflix issued a statement saying, ‘’We’re proud to have offered fans the third season of designated survivor and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come. We’re thankful to the star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland who brought passion, dedication, and unforgettable performance as president Kirkman.’’

Recently, Sutherland also shared a video on social media in which he spoke fondly of the show. ‘’I wanted to take a moment to thank you everybody for their incredible support with The Designated Survivor. The third season is the final season. You guys have just been amazing. It was an honor to play Tom Kirkman and thank you so much for supporting it through the three seasons we got to do. All my love, thanks a lot.’’

During an interview with Simon Mayo on Scala Radio shortly before the news got broke of the season’s cancellation.

Sutherland said that he wasn’t hopeful for Designated Survivor season 4 for one big reason.

He revealed,’’ I don’t think season four is going to happen. We had an amazing experience with Netflix and a kind of freedom, that was wonderful. But the reality is because the contracts were so complicated and different from network television to Netflix. They didn’t book a lot of actors who were on the show and they took other jobs. I don’t blame them for a second for that. I think doing season four would be very complicated and difficult. I think it’s time for all of us to go and find something new to do.’’

Meanwhile, Netflix has neither confirmed nor denied those comments about contracts.

The Deadlines also reported that Netflix and Studio Entertainment One only struck a one-year deal with the cast which would have meant that their contracts were up at the end of season three.
